  1. Legal Counsel – Legal Department - Dubai UAE

    Title: Legal Counsel – Legal Department
    Location: Dubai, UAE
    Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

    Wilben is an independent merchant trading and logistic house focused on commodities and capital equipment, sourcing from and supplying to established and emerging markets globally. The role is based in the Head Office located in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai, UAE and offers the opportunity to gain deep insight into the trading business as well as exposure to wide variety of legal documents, jurisdictions and interesting issues.

    Key responsibilities

    • Working on legal matters as directed by the Chairman or CEO relating to a diverse range of trade related business verticals including: physical commodity trading, supply chain and logistics and structured trade finance. There may also be a limited amount of M&A and private client work
    • Ensure the businesses have suitable external specialist legal counsel relationships in place
    • Prepare/review board and shareholder resolutions
    • Supporting the commercial team with any queries and ongoing operations of the company
    • Contract drafting with an eye for detail
    • Develop and manage legal database
    • Manage litigation
    • Assist the HR department on any legal agreements/issues
    • Legal research on local and international laws that impact the business
    • Assisting the compliance and risk departments
    • Coordinate with external counsel on contracts and legal matters that arise


    Who we are looking for

    Academic:

    • You hold a law degree from a common law jurisdiction

    Technical:
    You possess a solid knowledge of

    • Trade instruments and finance
    • Physical commodity trading
    • Corporate structures and documentation
    • Corporate finance
    • ECA based finance
    • Strong drafting capability (JV’s, supply agreements, NDA’s)
    • Legal issues that can arise in cross border transactions
    • Company formation documents and processes
    • Knowledge of GAFTA documentation would also be a strong advantage
    • MS office and word processing and in particular able to format lengthy legal documents
    • Ability to work with and manage relationships with various stakeholders

    Experience:

    • At least 10 years’ experience in a similar function with a mix of private practice and in-house experience
    • Experience as in-house as Legal Counsel for trading house; finance company; shipping company; or a trade fund
    • Exposure to company establishment and maintenance in multiple geographies would be a strong advantage

    Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills
    • It is essential that you are fluent in both written and verbal English. Advanced level in French or Russian would be useful
    • As a person, you have an eye for detail and take your time to get documents right, you are organised and possess the drive and discipline that enables you to work independently and keep focused in a fast-paced environment, with the enthusiasm to overcome challenges that may arise
    • You thrive in handling a workload that varies in content and scope. You look for and do not avoid responsibility
    • You have shown adaptability in terms of picking up legal issues in areas that you are new to/have no experience in
    • You have a keen ability to highlight legal risks while being commercially minded

  2. Operations Manager - Africa

    Title: Operations Manager – Africa
    Location: Dakar, Senegal
    Reporting to: Managing Director – Africa & Head of Operations – Dubai

The role is based in the Dakar office located in Regus Les Almadies Business Center, Dakar, Senegal and offers the opportunity to gain deep insight into the trading business as well as exposure to a wide variety of commodity transactional operations.

    Key responsibilities

    • Issue all transactional documentation including commercial contracts, invoices, draft Letters of Credit
    • Manage the settlement process of transactions including presentation of documents, discounting of Letters of Credit and other financial instruments and making payments to customers
    • All necessary coordination with clients, banks and other team members including operations, sales and accounting
    • Market the products of the Wilben Group to new and existing counterparties;
    • Manage existing relationships of the Wilben Group with counterparties – both banks and companies (as appropriate)
    • Negotiate and agree commercial terms with counterparties
    • Work together with other members of the team in identifying new opportunities and developing new products


    Who we are looking for

    Academic:

    • You are qualified to a minimum Degree level

    Experience:

    • 5 years and above experience of commodity trading operation, corporate finance and ECA based finance
    • Experience in physical trading is advantageous
    • Deep understanding of commodities markets and related processes
    • Knowledge of International Trade Law is advantageous
    • Deep knowledge of commodities exchanges, clearing standards and market conventions
    • Understanding of commodities workflows and straight through processes
    • Knowledge of GAFTA documentation would also be a strong advantage
    • MS office and word processing and able to format lengthy legal documents
    • Systems acumen and technical understanding

    Skills:

    • Strong communication and executive presentation skills
    • Fluent in English and French is essential;-
    • Proven teaming and collaboration; prior supervisory experience preferred
    • Ability to work with and manage relationships with various stakeholders
    • Attention to detail, organised and possess the drive and discipline that enables you to work independently
    • Ability to be focused in a fast-paced environment with the enthusiasm to overcome challenges that may arise
    • You thrive in handling a workload that varies in content and scope; you look for and do not avoid responsibility
